In AMPRO, you can perform Distance Search Tests in two different ways:

1️⃣ Standard Search Mode
Adaptive, precise, and focused on the relay’s characteristic boundary.

2️⃣ Search Interval Mode
A fixed‑step impedance sweep (e.g., every 0.5 Ω) that tests along a uniform path in the R‑X plane — regardless of the characteristic shape.

⭐ Why Search Interval matters?
1) No dependency on the characteristic model

Search Interval works even when:
• relay settings are incomplete or incorrect
• the characteristic is complex or non‑standard
• you’re testing an unfamiliar relay model
Because it does not rely on Mho, Quad, Polygon, or any defined curve ⇒ It simply sweeps impedance.

2) Detects unexpected relay behavior
Since it covers the entire sweep path, it can reveal issues that adaptive search may miss:
• overreach
• underreach
• unexpected trip points
• blinder interactions
• load encroachment effects
A powerful way to see the relay’s true performance under real test conditions.
Whether you need precision around the boundary or a full impedance sweep, AMPRO gives you both Search Testing strategies in one unified workflow.
